Throphill Eco House
This project was developed for a dairy farmer in the Green Belt. He wanted a simple building that he could be hands-on in constructing and that would give a strong connection to the landscape. To achieve this, we developed a variation on a simple shed with the only vertical being a large fireplace for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Although this is a very generous house, the simple form and natural materials make it feel very much at home in this agricultural context. The sustainable timber construction method is enhanced with expansive PV panels, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery careful use of solar gain and highly insulated building fabric.
